Anton Swan OAM, patron of the Federation of Sri Lankan Organisations of Queensland, has been commended by Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner for his three decades of dedicated service to the community as Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Queensland.
Anton ended his tenure as official representative of Sri Lanka last year.
Anton and his wife, Bronwen, (pictured) were feted at a special reception by the FSOQ, its member organisations and a grateful community in July, 2023. A new honorary consul is yet to be appointed.
Cr Schrinner said Anton had been a valuable supporter of the Sri Lankan diaspora in Brisbane since his
appointment in 1990.
“Your deep commitment and service to the community has been greatly appreciated. I commend your dedication and hard work to strengthen ties between Australia and Sri Lanka, and your achievements will be remembered for many years to come,” he said.
“Your dedication to service has been truly commendable and rightly recognised in 2021 when
you were the recipient of a Medal in the Order of Australia for your service to the Sri Lankan
community in Queensland.
“Since migrating to Australia in 1970 and then to Brisbane in 1974, you have continued to contribute to Brisbane’s thriving multicultural community. From coordinating the Sri Lankan Pavilion at the World Expo in 1988 and your invaluable support to the community during the 2010/2011 floods, Brisbane has truly benefited from your dedication as Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Queensland.”
