Posted October 25, 2024

The Sri Lanka Women’s Forum of Queensland has formed sub-committees to plan and coordinate support services and projects that will benefit the local community.

The SLWFQ, functioning under the auspices of the Federation of Sri Lankan Organisations of Queensland, held its first formal meeting in October. Sandhya Abeysekera is Forum Convenor and Mini Keerawella is Secretary.

The sub-committees are:

Cultural Sub-Committee:

Focus on cultural activities. Members will be confirmed at the next meeting. All fundraising events will be handled by this sub-committee. Coordinator: Priyanganie Unantenna

Women’s Welfare Sub-Committee:

Focus on women’s welfare initiatives and health and wellbeing. Coordinator: Thilangi Devendra.

 Professional Assistance Sub-Committee:

Aim to  provide professional help for women. Coordinator: Ramya Tennekoon.

Children’s Assistance Sub-Committee:

Focus on assisting with children’s education, including finding schools, daycare, and tuition support. Coordinator: Thilangi Devendra.

The women’s forum ran a food stall at last month’s Sri Lanka Day multicultural festival.

The SLWFQ will organise Sangayana 2 (fundraising musical show), with a tentative date set as February 15. Further details will be confirmed at the next meeting.

The wider participation by women is encouraged. Anyone interested can join the forum or a sub-committee.
